Tips on best way to burn candles

First of all, always make sure your wick is trimmed before lighting a soy candle.

It's the first thing to do, but it's the most crucial step before lighting a candle. Cut the wick to about a quarter of an inch. Also, if you get rid of the carbon, you'll have a more manageable flame that melts the wax more consistently and attractively.

Too much buildup on the wick could be to blame if you've ever noticed smoke, carbon, or black soot accumulating inside your candle containers. If you don't have a wick trimmer, you can use sharp scissors or even just pinch it with your fingers (after the candle has cooled, of course) to shorten the wick.

Second, a candle shouldn't be burned for longer than four hours at a time.  When a candle is burned for longer than four hours, the wick can produce too much carbon from consuming too much wax.

Thirdly, make sure the melt pool has room to spread out to the sides.

Tunnelling in candles: have you encountered this? When this occurs, the candle seems to burn straight down the middle, leaving a ring of wax around the outside.  To prevent this, make sure the melt pool, or top layer of melted wax, covers the entire jar before putting out the flame.

On the first burn, you should give your candle at least two to three hours to create a full melt pool.

Keep candles away from drafts or airy rooms.

In order to get more use out of your candle, try this trick to make it burn more slowly.  When a candle is lit in a airy room, the extra oxygen in the air causes the flame to grow hotter and longer. If you can avoid it, the candle will use less wax.

The fifth and final piece of advice is to put the candle out when only a quarter of an inch of wax remains because there isn't enough wax left in the jar to keep going. The primary concern here is fire safety; you do not want your wick burning in an empty jar. The jar may overheat and sometimes crack.

These suggestions are meant to improve your home candle-burning experience with soy wax candles.
